In the words of the Beatles, “It was 20 years ago today..” that these 20 records were my favourites of the week:

  1. 20. I DON’T CARE – Shakespear’s Sister
A pretty good mix of styles here I think, classic heritage acts, rock, cutting edge dancepop, folk, soul, ballads..and most of them were British hits, the one obscure one that wasn’t (Asia Blue) turned up re-worked by Dina Carroll, and Buffy’s should’ve been a hit but got radio play. Yes, it’s THAT Kim Basinger on the Was (Not Was) hit…

So, quite a volatile chart, there had been some major new entries from nowhere, and a general chart clear-out. A few classic oldies of the 60’s 70’s 80’s: Irma, Abba, Sex Pistols, Smiths, Tom Jones. As long as it’s quality stuff, very happy to have Abba next to Sex Pistols!

Top new track was East 17, but there’s a avariety of great ’92 tracks lower down, new & old. Let’s try and forget that awful version of Baker Street though, I was swayed by my love for the original. Gerry rafferty’s single version is the greatest record ever made. It’s perfect in every way, start to finish, it couldnt be improved on. Best sax solo, best guitar solo, a work of pure genius.

Prince of course, changed his mind shortly after his song title…
